BCC Optical Stabilizer error in FCP

While using BCC Optical Stabilizer in Final Cut Pro you may get the following error:

To ensure optimum stabilization, please set your preview window to full resolution before analyzing.

When this message appears you are not able to analyze the clip.

There are two things you need to do.

1. Make sure your canvas window is set to 100%

2. In your sequence settings make sure your frame rate and resolution on the render tab are set to 100%(see image below).

There have also been some instances where the filter will not work if you apply it to a clip that does not match the sequence settings. In this case you need to nest the clip in another sequence and then cut that sequence in as a clip before applying the filter.

Error: Unable To Find Conform File For: BCC . . .

You may get the following error with your Avid editor if you have multiple versions of BCC installed.

Error: Unable To Find Conform File For: BCC . . .

It is not recommended to use AVX 1.5 versions of the plugs on new editors as well as older version of BCC.

What is suggested is removing BCC 5 and reinstalling BCC 6. BCC 6 is AVX 2 only and will promote any BCC 5 AVX 1.5 effects to BCC 6 AVX 2.

AVX 2 is suggested and gives you advanced keyframe capabilities in Avid.

BCC 4 will not be promoted to BCC 6 so it is recommended you leave this installed but to no longer use it in future projects.

Duplicate filter error using BCC or FEC in After Effects

When using BCC or FEC in After Effects you may receive a duplicate filter error (or multiple) upon launch.

"After Effects Warning: there are multiple copies of plug-in effect "name of effect" on your drive."

This is because After Effects has two potential install locations and you have filters installed to both.

Here are the solutions for PC and Mac.

PC-

The two PC locations are:

C:\Program Files*\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\CS4\MediaCore
and
C:\Program Files*\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS4\Support Files\Plug-ins

The MediaCore folder is accessed by both After Effects and Premiere so remove any duplicates from the 2nd, bolded, path above.

*(Program Files x86 on 64 bit OS)

Mac-

The two locations are:

Macintosh HD> Library> Application Support> Adobe> Plug-Ins> Common> CS4> MediaCore.
and
Macintosh HD> Applications> Adobe After Effects CS4> Plug-Ins

The MediaCore folder is accessed by both After Effects and Premiere so remove any duplicates from the 2nd, bolded, path above.

General troubleshooting for Boris Red, FX, and Graffiti

Generally speaking Red,FX, and Graffiti are pretty stable products but occasionally you may run into situations where you are getting an unexpected behavior.

The only real troubleshooting step you need to take are trashing preferences.

On the PC the are located in the C:/Windows folder and are .ini files named after the product and version you have installed. For example Boris FX9.3.ini or Boris Red4.3.ini. Simply move these files to the trash and you will see them rebuilt upon launch.

On the Mac you will find them located in Mac HD> Users> "Current user"> Library> Preferences

Again they are named after the product and end in "preferences" or "pref"

BCC 6.0.7.2 FxPlug update released!

This update was released this week and fixes some major issues.

Users applying BCS filters in FCP(or Motion) on Snow Leopard with a dual monitor configuration would experience crashing or weird screen draw issues. Below is an example:

Follow the link below to get the update:

Choose Continuum Complete FxPlug and the update will be your first option!

Screen draw issue with Boris Red/Avid FX on Windows

Ran into an interesting one today.

Upon launch Boris Red/Avid FX (Avid FX is Boris Red re-branded) screens do not draw properly making the software unusable.

This seems to happen if you have a Wacom Tablet driver installed and enabled with no Wacom Tablet attached.

The solutions would be:

  • Attaching the Wacom Tablet
  • Removing the Driver from the machine
  • Or disabling the driver via Services in Computer Management.

See this thread about the issue -

This can also occur on Win XP and the folder paths are a bit different. Below are the instructions for Win XP:

When you are installing Avid FX 5.8 and the following error is popping up:

Feature transfer error

Feature: Avid FX for AVX 2
Component: DLL AVX
File: %ProgramFiles% \
Error: Access is denied.

The installer doesn't find the path for the AVX2-Plug-ins folder. To get around this error message you may edit the according registry value:

  1. Go to Start: Run.
  2. Type regedit in there.
  3. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Avid Technology\AVX Plug-ins.
  4. Change the value of AVX2Directory from %ProgramFiles%\Avid\AVX2_Plug-Ins to: C:\Program Files\Avid\AVX2_Plug-Ins
(or to the explicit path where your AVX2_Plug-Ins folder got installed after the installation of Media Composer)
